Fence cost guide

Aluminum fence cost: panels and installation

Count aluminum panels and posts, then check the panel grade, gate assembly and slope details. Open ornamental fencing and aluminum privacy systems need separate specifications.

How the price is calculated

Fence cost = the selected per-foot rate × total entered length, including gate openings. Gate charges are separate when a matching sourced price is available. Permits, removal, tax and delivery are excluded. Installed rates already include materials and labor. No gate charges are added. Height and style change counts, not the per-foot rate.

Planning quantities, excluding special hardware. Confirm the layout before ordering.

Each side uses the same scale. Shared corner posts appear on both adjoining rows and count once. Gates split each side into equal runs; each run uses equal bays no wider than your post spacing.

Aluminum fence material costs

Use the selected system's post spacing to estimate one panel per bay. Rails are part of the panel assembly. Verify the post type and dimensions for line, end, corner and gate locations; the calculator does not separate those product types.

Item Range (USD) Source What it covers Checked
Aluminum materials $13–$45 per linear foot, materials only Fixr Powder-coated aluminum, materials only.
Aluminum swing gate materials $100–$300 per gate, materials only Fixr Standard aluminum swing gate materials; installation excluded.

Aluminum fence installation cost

The installed range covers the fence run's materials and labor. Gate assemblies are separate. Ask the installer to specify post anchoring, slope transitions and cuts, with removal, permits, tax and delivery shown outside the fence-run price.

Item Range (USD) Source What it covers Checked
Aluminum installed $17–$90 per linear foot, installed Angi Material table on the general fence installation page
Aluminum labor $15–$40 per linear foot, labor Fixr Aluminum fence installation labor, per linear foot.
Aluminum installed — comparison $13–$75 per linear foot, installed Fixr Installed aluminum across powder-coated, ornamental and picket styles.
Aluminum installed — older reference $30–$50 per linear foot, installed Forbes Home Aluminum or metal; installed reference published March 2023, with no update date shown.

The installed calculator rate comes from Angi. Fixr's installed range spans powder-coated, ornamental and picket styles; its material rate covers powder-coated aluminum. The Forbes reference covers aluminum or metal and was published in March 2023 with no update date shown. Compare matching styles and scopes, and do not add labor to an installed rate.

Ornamental panels versus aluminum privacy

An open ornamental panel has visible gaps. For screening, specify a privacy panel or infill system designed for that use. A general aluminum price range does not establish the cost of a solid privacy system; compare the exact product, posts and gate design.

Rackable panels and grade changes

A rackable panel can adjust to a slope within the manufacturer's limits. A stepped panel creates a different gap under each bay. Check those limits and the required post lengths before assuming every panel can be installed the same way.

Gate hardware and pool boundaries

Confirm that hinges, latches and posts belong to the chosen panel system. For a pool boundary, have the local authority confirm the required height, openings and gate operation. Selecting a height in this calculator does not verify pool-barrier compliance.

Aluminum fence budgets for common lengths

The material examples use Fixr's powder-coated aluminum range; installed examples use Angi's broader aluminum range. These are independent planning references. The sources do not describe a matching package whose labor can be found by subtracting the columns.

Why a broad aluminum range needs a product quote

Choose the panel system before narrowing the budget. The saved sources cover different ornamental and picket configurations, and no dedicated aluminum privacy rate is available in the price data. A height selection in the calculator is not evidence that the broad price covers that height or a solid infill system. Ask for an itemized proposal for your selected product.

Panel grade, posts and finish: what to specify

Ask each bidder to name the manufacturer, panel series and finished height. Record the rail profile, picket layout and finish alongside the product name. A generic description such as “black aluminum fence” leaves too much room for substitutions. Have the supplier identify the matching end, line, corner and gate posts on your drawing.

The quantity estimate gives a count of bays and posts. It does not tell the supplier which posts are drilled for which connections, which panels can be cut or which cuts need additional fittings. Resolve those details at the corners and last bay of each run before comparing a boxed panel order with a complete installed offer.

Slopes can change the layout you are buying

Take grade measurements along the proposed line and show abrupt changes on the sketch. Ask the supplier to mark where the selected panel can rack and where it must step. Check the resulting clearance below each panel against the job's purpose, especially where you want to contain a pet. A panel count alone does not describe the gap beneath it.

Have the quote identify any longer posts, custom cuts or special transitions. If adjacent bays need different treatment, show that on the layout. A note that says only “follow grade” leaves those details unresolved. The calculator divides runs into equal bays; the installation drawing needs the actual post positions.

Gate materials and gate installation are separate

The saved swing-gate price covers materials only. The estimator can add that range to a material budget, but it has no matching installed aluminum gate rate to add to the installed total. Request a complete gate proposal covering the leaf, supports, hinges, latch and hanging labor.

If the gate crosses a driveway, also describe the clear opening and the way it will operate. A standard swing-gate material range does not price an automated or custom driveway entrance. Check that the posts and hardware are specified for the proposed gate. Confirm whether the line-post specification suits it before reusing that description.

DIY or professional installation?

A DIY order needs more than the panel count: check compatible fittings, fasteners and caps, then arrange delivery and any tools for cutting and setting posts. Confirm the manufacturer's instructions for anchoring and finish repair at cuts. Do not assume that a kit for setting posts in soil is also a surface-mount kit for an existing slab.

Hire an installer against a written panel and post schedule. Ask whether layout, excavation, assembly, gate adjustment and cleanup are included. Where rock or existing concrete is visible, request an agreed treatment for that work. Comparing a labor-only offer with a full installed price requires adding the separately quoted materials, not adding labor again to the installed figure.

Care and warranty questions

For its aluminum systems, Catalyst recommends a hose rinse and a mild dish-soap solution for regular cleaning. Check the chosen manufacturer's guidance before treating stains or repairing finish damage. Ask who supplies matching replacement panels and what the finish warranty excludes. Keep those terms with the product name so a future repair can be matched to the installed system.

Compare aluminum with another fence material

For an open boundary, compare aluminum's panel and gate specification with an open vinyl system or chain link at a matching height. For screening, compare a purpose-built aluminum privacy system with wood or vinyl privacy. Open aluminum and a solid wood screen do not deliver the same result. Use the material cost comparison for source ranges, then narrow it to the products and work you need.

Common questions

Does aluminum fencing provide privacy?

Open ornamental panels do not form a solid screen. A privacy system needs its own product specification, infill and supporting posts.

Does a panel count include gate panels?

No. Gate openings are deducted from the run. Select the gate assembly and compatible posts and hardware separately.

Can every aluminum panel follow a slope?

Check the panel instructions. Racking limits and stepped installations differ by system; the calculator only estimates bays from length and spacing.
